Despite the glamour and excitement often associated with film, mostly it all comes down to paperwork. After doing the fun work of finding the locations, next we have to secure insurance for those locations, fill out the paperwork involved, make sure our permissions are sound, and finally make overheads.
Overheads are important on the day of our shoot. They let the crew know where to station equipment, where the Green Room is and finally where we're pointing the camera. In the photo above I have a snippet of crude overheads that I drew up. They give a general idea of the layout of a location, and that's all that matters.
Life has turned into a series of to do lists, hence both journals pictured above. Writing everything down is the only way to keep up.
